Door repair and adjustment
Houston clay moves under a slab every season. Doors are usually the first place you notice it. A door you have to shoulder shut is usually the house moving, not the door failing. Most of the time it is still a one hour fix.
What the job involves
- Hinges shimmed, tightened or replaced where the screws have pulled
- Strike plates moved so the latch actually meets the hole
- The bottom of a dragging door planed and resealed
- Weatherstripping and thresholds replaced on exterior doors
- Interior doors that swing open on their own, corrected
- Closet and pantry doors that jump the track, reset
What is not included
- Cutting a new opening or moving a doorway
- Rekeying or replacing lock cylinders. A locksmith is faster and cheaper.
- Garage doors with springs under tension. Those hurt people.
What it costs
Usually one hour at $140. Three or four doors in the same visit is where this gets cheap, because the tools are already out.
Examples of this work
- The bedroom door that will not latch
- A back door dragging on the tile
- Three interior doors in one visit
