Drywall patching
Doorknob through the wall, a shelf that came down, or the crack over the doorway that shows up every August. A patch done properly is one you cannot find afterwards. That is the job.
What the job involves
- Hole cut square, backed and patched so it does not flex
- Two or three coats of compound, each one sanded
- Texture matched to the rest of the wall, orange peel or knockdown
- Primed and painted if you have the paint
- Settlement cracks over doors and windows, taped rather than smeared over
What is not included
- Water damaged board before the source of the water is fixed
- Ceilings that are sagging rather than marked
- Anything that turns out to be structural once it is opened up
What it costs
One hole is a first hour job, $140. Texture and paint may need a short second visit once the compound is dry, and I tell you what that visit costs before I leave the first one. Several holes in one visit is the efficient way to do this.
