Picture, art and curtain hanging

Anyone can put a nail in a wall. The difference is whether it is straight, whether it is at the right height, and whether it is still on the wall in a year. Heavy mirrors and long curtain rods are where this goes wrong.

What the job involves

  • Height set properly, which is lower than most people guess
  • Gallery walls laid out on the floor first, so you approve it before it is drilled
  • Anchors matched to the weight, into studs wherever a stud exists
  • Curtain rods measured, leveled and set wide enough to clear the window
  • Mirrors and heavy frames secured so they cannot walk off the hook
  • Floating shelves fitted level and tested with real weight

What is not included

  • Hanging into a ceiling without checking what is above it
  • Anything requiring a second story ladder outside
  • Tile and stone walls without discussing it first

What it costs

$140 for the first hour, which covers most rooms. A full gallery wall or a house worth of curtain rods runs two to three hours.

Examples of this work

  • A gallery wall down the stairs
  • A heavy mirror over the mantel
  • Curtain rods through the whole house
